Release notes: Web app 6.17.0 · Mobile app 6.8.0

28 Aug 2026

Permissions rebuilt, assets expanded

This release rebuilds how access works in TranzMate. You no longer grant access module by module. Instead, you grant individual permissions using a new security role editor. Many actions that used to need an administrator can now be given to any user. Assets also gain new classification and specification fields, and there are smaller improvements across settings, parts and invoicing.

What this means for you

You don't need to do anything. Existing roles are migrated for you, and users keep the access they have today.

Role changes apply at the user's next sign-in. Whether access is added or removed, nothing changes mid-session. If a change is urgent, the user just needs to sign out and back in.

Review your roles against the new permissions below. Some actions that used to come with "edit" access are now separate permissions, so they can be granted individually.

Permissions and security roles

Disclaimer: Only TMDealer accounts and selected larger TMFleet accounts can manage their own security roles. On standard TMFleet accounts, the Brightfox team still manages roles. The permission changes below still apply to what your users can do.

A rebuilt Security Roles page

Security Roles (System Settings → Security Roles) has been redesigned. For the first time, some accounts can now manage their own security roles and permissions: all TMDealer accounts and selected larger TMFleet accounts.

Customer roles (TMDealer only)

  • Employee and customer roles are now in separate tables.
  • You can no longer delete a role by accident while it's in use. Instead, you'll be told who is using the role.

Managed by Brightfox (Standard TMFleet)

Nothing changes for standard TMFleet accounts. The Brightfox team continues to manage your security roles and permissions. Get in touch if you'd like a role adjusted.

New action-level permissions

Several actions now have their own permissions, so they can be granted on their own. Previously they came automatically with edit access or administrator status.

PermissionWhat it covers
Delete AssetsArchiving, un-archiving and deleting an asset. Users who can edit assets can no longer archive them.
Manage Asset ReadingsAdjusting an asset's hours or odometer.
Apply Service GroupApplying, changing or removing an asset's service plan.
Manage Service ThresholdsService warning thresholds on the asset form. These are no longer administrator-only.
Request ServiceRaising a service request on web and mobile without needing wider service access.
Override Submission DetailsBackdating or reassigning a pre-start or incident report submission.
Cancel Service & Cancel RequestNow covered by the delete permission for services and tickets.
Renewals and dashboardBoth are now permissions in their own right, on all accounts.
API Integration Settings (TMDealer only)Third-party, lead, Carsales and ERP integrations, plus automation rules.
Customer marketing (TMDealer only)Ad-hoc emails, SMS and the marketing opt-out are now controlled by a single marketing permission.

Administrator status matters less

On all accounts, System Settings and Generate Pre-Start URLs are now controlled only by permissions. You can give an ordinary employee access to either without making them an administrator. The same applies to Master Parts on dealer accounts.

The Account section and pre-start templates still require an administrator.

  • The menu only shows what you can open. If you can see it, it works. Empty groups are hidden.
  • Direct actions for create-only users. Users who can create but not browse get a direct action instead of a list: Create Ticket, Perform Pre-Start and Request Service.
  • Clearer access messages. When you don't have access, you now see a message naming the permission you need, instead of an error.
  • No-access sign-out. A user with no access at all is signed out and shown an explanation.

Other permission changes to be aware of

  • Renewals: Now separate from assets, so you can grant it on its own.
  • Import and export: Now separate permissions. Importing used to be bundled into a module's export permission, so anyone who could export could also import. You can now grant each one on its own.
  • Activities (TMDealer only): Now a single permission. Anyone who can see activities can also create them.
  • Parts reference settings (TMDealer only): Product categories, manufacturers, part groups, paretos, channels and pricing levels now require parts access. Fleet accounts no longer see these tabs.
  • Integrations and automation rules (TMDealer only): These need the API Integration permission, not general settings access.

Assets

  • Classification fields (New): Assets can now have a Category, Department, Cost Centre and Status. You manage these from four new settings lists, and you can use them as search filters.
  • Specifications (New): New sections for engine, fuel and energy, transmission and drivetrain, dimensions, weights, towing and manufacture date.
  • Details tab: Shows every field on the asset page at a glance, along with created and modified information.
  • Reading Type: Now chosen when you create an asset. It defaults to Odometer, and you can filter by it.
  • Renewals (New): Renewals now include an amount, so you can record what a renewal costs. You can enter it when you create a renewal and edit it later on existing ones.
  • Import: You can now decide, field by field, what happens to unrecognised organisations, departments, cost centres, categories and statuses: create them automatically, or reject the row.

Settings, parts and invoicing

  • Transfer between reference values: You can now move everything assigned to one value across to another in a single action. This works for asset categories, cost centres, departments, statuses, body types, ownership types, renewal types and registration states.
  • Invoice GL codes (New): Invoice GL codes (System Settings → Invoice GL Codes) now have a cost bucket you can filter by, and descriptions now save correctly.
  • Master Parts (TMDealer only): Now shows a Channels column.

Mobile app 6.8.0

  • Shared permissions: The mobile app uses the same permissions as the web app, and shows the same explanatory message when a page isn't available.
  • Live re-checks: Permissions are re-checked every time you move to a new page, so a change applies as soon as the user signs back in.
  • Request Asset Service: Now uses the new Request Service permission. Check that field users who raise service requests have it.
  • Menu and landing page: These now adapt to the signed-in user's permissions.

Other changes and fixes

  • SMS: SMS options now appear only on accounts that have an SMS service. Accounts that previously saw SMS buttons that never worked will no longer see them. Contact us if you'd like SMS turned on.
  • Saved preferences (TMDealer only): Preferences you switch off, such as hiding trade prices in the parts catalogue, now stay off after you reload the page.
  • Service supplier type: No longer locked for users without workshop access when no workshop is assigned.
